i’m on day 3 without Coke Zero [or any other caffeinated/diet drinks], & i have to say it’s going surprisingly well. mostly surprising because i didn’t realize i was out of Coke Zero until yesterday. & i’m totally fine.
i’ve done this one time before [freshman year of college, pre-Spring Break]. so it’s been, what, 5 years since then? i have depended a WHOLE lot on caffeine in those 5 years – for every headache, study session, late night, research paper, craft project, etc… you get the picture.
if you do the math, I’ve consumed at least 1,825 caffeinated drinks since my last “fast”. probably more like 2,000+ when i consider all of the times i drank multiple cans/refills/big bottles. that’s a little scary.
obviously the “Zero” implies zero calories, but the aspartame is what really concerns me. i’ve been reading about some of its side-effects, like decreased neuro activity & loss of eyesight. not something i want to sign up for! i kind of feel guilty for drinking a few during pregnancy [if i drank a coke, i wouldn’t drink diet while i was with child… but how illogical is that? he would get it through breastmilk same as through the placenta].
i’m not bragging or even banning myself from a good ole’ Coke every once & a while. it’s just very apparent to me that our culture consumes beverages [with & without calories/aspartame/sugar/syrup] at an alarming rate.
i carry around a Tervis tumblr of water, the large one that holds 24 oz. i try to drink 3-4 a day, which has made a difference in my feeling hungry! a little, or a lot, of H20 will go a long way! next stop: work out 3-4 days a week!
